SANE Program Development and Operation Guide: Four Caring Relationships TRANSCRIPT

SUSAN CHASSON, STATEWIDE COORDINATOR, UTAH COALITION AGAINST SEXUAL ASSAULT: When we started to revise the guide, we looked for a theory of nursing care that we thought would match what SANE nurses do and we found Joanne Duffy's Caring Model. And it contains four caring relationships and eight care concepts. And the four caring relationships are so important to the SANE nurse. The first one is caring for the patient and the patient's family and significant others. The second caring relationship is caring for our team members. The third caring relationship is caring for the community. And the last caring relationship that is so important is care for ourselves. And if we don't do self-care, if we don't take care of our own needs, then we cannot continue in this role as a SANE nurse.
