Strategic Planning for Victim Service Leaders

Strategic planning is vital to the health of every organization. This 2-day training is designed for current and potential program managers who want to learn and practice skills that will help them plan strategically and effectively for their organizations. The training includes modules on the basic steps of strategic planning: getting your organization ready, determining where you want your organization to go, putting the plan into action, and communicating and marketing your plan.

Active participation in each of the following training modules will help you accomplish these specific learning objectives:

  • Strategic Planning–Getting Your Organization Ready
    • Define strategic planning.
    • Articulate the importance of strategic planning.
    • Describe the strategic planning process.
    • Develop an effective strategic planning group.
    • Determine if an organization is ready to initiate the strategic planning process.
    • Create a common ground and respectful environment in a strategic planning group.
  • Assess–Determining Where Your Organization is Now
    • Use a SWOT analysis to assess an organization's current status.
    • Identify strategies for collecting data about an organization's current status.
  • Create–Determining Where You Want Your Organization To Go
    • Develop guiding statements (values, vision, and mission).
    • Develop clear goals and objectives.
    • Identify strategies for setting priorities based on the list of goals and objectives.
    • Identify elements of a strategic plan.
  • Implement–Putting the Plan into Action
    • Identify elements of an action plan and strategies for developing an action plan.
    • Identify potential resources needed for a strategic plan initiative.
    • Identify possible sources of financial support for a strategic plan initiative.
  • Post-Implementation–Communicating and Marketing Your Plan
    • Identify what strategic plan marketing is and why it is important.
    • Match needs of stakeholders with effective marketing strategies.
  • Post-Implementation–Communicating and Marketing Your Plan
    • Develop individual action plans for applying new information and skills to your own organizations.
