Cathy Phelps, the executive director of the Center for Trauma & Resilience in Denver, Colorado, tell us how her organization offers culturally and linguistically responsive services and fosters health promotion for people affected by crime and trauma.

Cathy Phelps has been the executive director of the Center for Trauma & Resilience (CTR) since 2003, overseeing policy, program, and budget development. She is responsible for hiring, training, and supervising clinical staff for CTR's five specialized programs, including a Helpline for crisis counseling, care management for victims/survivors of crime, and trauma-sensitive yoga. Under her leadership, CTR has become a leader in Denver in providing collaborative and victim-centered support to crime and trauma survivors and their families, most notably homicide survivors. Ms. Phelps currently serves as affiliate faculty for a local university. She has served on local and national boards, conducts board and program development and strategic planning for designing inclusive/diverse nonprofit organizations, and hosts workshops on compassion fatigue/vicarious trauma and self-care for service providers.
