Children and Youth

Children and youth are a highly victimized segment of the general population. They are victims of some of the same crimes adults experience, and also some that are unique to childhood and adolescence. This module identifies different crimes that impact children and youth, describes how children and youth react to trauma, identifies the developmental impact of trauma on children and youth of different ages, and describes strategies for working with child and youth victims of crime.

Homeless Populations

Incarcerated Victims of Sexual Violence

Length: 45 minutes

Summary:

Incarcerated victims of sexual violence are at high risk of becoming victims again, because they may be too fearful to reach out for help or when they do, they find services specific to their needs are unavailable. They often fear experiencing further trauma and shame if they do come forward. This module defines sexual violence within correctional facilities, describes the unique aspects of sexual violence in correctional facilities, describes the risk factors for sexual violence in correctional facilities, identifies challenges or obstacles to providing victim services to incarcerated victims of sexual violence, and identifies and describes some of the practical response strategies that can be implemented to address the needs of incarcerated victims of sexual violence.

LGBTQ Populations

Length: 1 hour

Summary:

LGBTQ people are in danger of victimization not only because of their race or class, but also because of their sexual orientation or gender identity. This module includes information on language, terminology, and concepts commonly used in LGBTQ communities, the differences between gender identity and sexual orientation, a historical and legal perspective of LGBTQ rights and recognition, barriers LGBTQ people face when accessing services, and ways to increase your agency's ability and capacity to effectively serve LGBTQ people.

This module provides information to support crime victim advocates as they build suicide prevention and response skills for working with AI/AN individuals. U.S. Citizens Victimized Overseas

U.S. citizens may live in or travel to many places overseas for many reasons. The vast majority do not become victims of crime, but those who do may not know how to seek help in a foreign country. This module addresses the challenges U.S. citizens face when victimized overseas, describes the role of the U.S. Department of State in providing assistance and identifies strategies that can be used to support the recovery of U.S. victims.

Victims of Campus Sexual Assault
