Training and Technical Assistance

Through the OVC Training and Technical Assistance Center (OVC TTAC), OVC can deploy consultants and trainers to assist communities with efforts to create a comprehensive and overarching plan to include victims in preparation for a mass violence or terrorism incident. OVC encourages you to request no-cost, customized training and technical assistance (TTA) to help you develop a comprehensive victim assistance plan before a mass violence or terrorism event occurs.

Partnerships & Planning Resources
Partnerships & Planning: TTA is provided to help create an emergency plan, recognize available victim resources as well as gaps in resources, identify potential members of a multidisciplinary planning committee, shape roles and responsibilities, review existing plans (if any), and examine all victim assistance protocols and customize them to fit your community.

Response Resources
Response: TTA is available to develop strategies for responding to an event, conducting victim needs assessments, and creating or enhancing a community's Family Assistance Center.

Recovery Resources
Recovery: TTA can help a community transition from a Family Assistance Center to a Community Resiliency Center.

Trauma Notification Training

The FBI’s "Trauma Notification Training" outlines a four-step national trauma notification model and provides guidance on conducting notifications after a mass violence incident with professionalism, dignity, and compassion. To learn more about providing death notifications following a mass violence incident, please review the "Helping Victims of Mass Violence and Terrorism: Death Notifications" webinar.
